George Chakiris Interview: Best known as Bernardo Leader of The Sharks in the 1961 Movie: West Side Story. He interviews with Mark J. Gross of Celebrity Biograph at the Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention September 2019. George Chakiris attends conventions such as Mid Atlantic Nostalgia Con 2019 with his dear friend Russ Tamblyn who played Riff the leader of the Jets in the Movie West Side Story. They like having tables side by side. We have Rus Tamblyn's interview too. Before George Chakiris landed the role of Bernardo Leader of The Sharks in the 1961 Movie: West Side Story. He was a dancer and member of the chorus in various musicals: The Great Caruso (1951) Stars and Stripes Forever (1952) Call Me Madam (1953) Second Chance (1953) The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T ( 1953) He was on of the dancers in Marilyn Monroe's musical number "Diamond are a Girl's Best Friend" with musical number "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" 1953 Frustrated with where his career was going George Chakiris made the fateful decision to leave Hollywood and go to London and was cast in a London production of a musical: West Side Story. When the musical went into big screen production, George Chakiris went back to Hollywood. He won The Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and The Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture. And that as they say is history.
